Reconceptualism is an idea that I have started to think about more as I am planning to student
teach in the spring. This theory is vital in my decision on how I would like to run my own classroom. The theory
is one that I can see working in several different classrooms, and different grades.
Official curriculum is important when you are introducing topics. I feel that official
curriculum can also be utilized in the classroom when you are needing a "physical source" for students that need that textbook
structure. Yet, when you are looking at that official curriculum you are able to realize that it is not always going
to "cut" it. You are definitely going to need supplemental instruction. I feel that when you are able to to get
to that supplemental material you as a teacher are going to be able to see the students reaching to a different level of learning.
I see myself as being part reconceptualist, because of the openness that you are able to
bestow on your classroom. I realize that as a new teacher I am going to need the official curriclum to be my base.
I am hoping to use that material, and then be able to expand beyond it. I feel that as the years go by I will be able
to utlize the different materials that available to give my students benefits that they will not find with just the official
curriculum. I am excited about learning more about reconceptualism as I grow in teaching.
